Investors.com: Art, Design Educational Needs Pushing STEM To STEAM
Focusing on art and design is critical for businesses to innovate and gain a competitive advantage, says John Stuart, senior vice president for education at Boston-based software company PTC.
PTC develops computer-assisted design software for product design. Clients include Microsoft (MSFT) and agricultural machinery maker Deere (DE).
Europe — particularly the Netherlands — is ahead in terms of design in products, but the U.S. can catch up, Stuart says.
It already has in some areas, he says. Take the once clunky domestic drudges, the washer and dryer.
PTC client Whirlpool (WHR) has taken pains to design attractive washers and dryers, Stuart says.
