PTC today released PTC Windchill PDM Essentials, a data management solution for small businesses.
Like traditional enterprise PDM solutions, PTC Windchill PDM Essentials helps companies effectively save, track, version, secure, organize, and retrieve CAD data and other documents associated with the product development process.
However, the new software is packaged so that it is much quicker to deploy than traditional PDM systems. The company estimates that PTC channel partners can set up the new “right-sized” installation within a couple hours, and users can be trained within a day.
At present, 75% of large enterprises use PDM systems, while only 29% of small companies employ the technology.
“Small manufacturers have some of the same needs for industrial strength product data management tools as the big guys,” said Thane Hathaway, CEO EAC. “That said, they don’t always have the same level of IT infrastructure to support such tools. PTC Windchill PDM Essentials gives them just what they need to securely and efficiently share and manage product information.”
Standard installations of PTC Windchill PDM Essentials can accommodate files from multiple CAD formats, including PTC Creo, PTC Pro/ENGINEER, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PTC Creo Elements/Direct, Autodesk Inventor, as well as PTC Mathcad. Teams can also use the software to manage accompanying data files like Microsoft Office documents and spreadsheets.
PTC Windchill PDM Essentials licensing includes a Microsoft SQL server database, consolidating the complete PDM system in a single deployment. It is sold exclusively through PTC’s channel partners worldwide.
