PTC Creo Layout makes quick 3D work out of 2D designs

Since its infancy, 2D and 3D CAD design have been fundamentally different.  If you wanted to use your 2D drawing to make your 3D design, you’d either have to import 2D information or completely recreate what you already designed in 2D for 3D.

With PTC Creo Layout, that 2D to 3D challenge is solved.

Built into the same platform as PTC Creo Parametric, PTC Creo Layout offers seamless integration between 2D and 3D designs. Take a look at these top benefits:

Use unconstrained drafting to create and manage 2D geometry

With a broad selection of sketching and geometry manipulation tools (i.e., mirror, offset, and trim), you have what you need in PTC Creo Layout to design in 2D with the added benefit of going straight to 3D. You can also add dimensions, notes, symbols, tables and drawing formats and then organize your designs with structure, tags and groups. Reuse it all in 3D.

Reuse 2D and 3D design data to reduce engineering time

Working with existing designs is easy in PTC Creo Layout. By importing cross sections of 3D models from PTC Creo Parametric, or importing 2D data from other standard 2D formats, or even tracing imported raster images to generate a sketch, you’re getting your designs finished faster. (Of course your work friends would think you’re brilliant when you’re bringing designs to the table before lunchtime.)

Integrate (don’t recreate) 2D designs with 3D models

As a standalone app, PTC Creo Layout integrates with PTC Creo Parametric, so you can use 2D designs generated in PTC Creo Layout to build 3D models in PTC Creo Parametric. Shorten design cycles by referencing some or all of a 2D design in 3D parts and assemblies.

If you’re curious for more and want to see what this little gem looks like, we have a tutorial that shows you PTC Creo Layout in action. See how easy it is to explore concepts in 2D and bring that easily into 3D.
