Creo 2.0: Core Enhancements to Sketching in Creo Parametric

As a designer, you can probably pinpoint your top five go-to tools in CAD. Creating and changing sketch-based features is probably one of them. While sketching already was a handy tool in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0, it just became handier with several core enhancements for Creo Parametric.

For starters, we enveloped the sketching tool right into your design workflow – it may seem like it should have been that way all along. We agree. In the past, you may have had to select a plane, open the sketch commands, and begin working. Now, you simply select a face to begin automatically sketching on the actual plane.

You won’t have to stop sketching to add extra 3D references either. Holding down the ALT key temporarily pauses the sketching so you can add more 3D references and get back to sketching again.

Another new feature is real-time regeneration, where the model dynamically regenerates as you change the sketch. For example, when you click on a feature, it shows the dimensions for that feature. With drag handles, you can click and move and modify that specific section of the feature. Along with precise real-time previews of cut-outs and cut-throughs, you can see how your sketch immediately affects the entire design and then get back to sketching again.

John Buchowski, VP at PTC, explains and demostrates the sketching highlights in Creo Parametric.

Additional geometry commands, like creating a center or slanted rectangle, also add a little more freedom and variation to sketching features. Sketching also integrates with streamlined interfaces for curves from equations, object action based dimensioning, tapered extrude, helical sweeps, and sweep commands.

Sketching is a core part of  Creo Parametric 2.0. It’s all part of our mission to deliver a slimmer, more purposeful CAD product. Go ahead, give Creo Parametric 2.0 a try!
